GIVE TO GOD’S WORK

Support the mission God has given us (2 Cor 8:9)

The Lord gave his disciples clear direction for the advancement of God’s work from Jerusalem to the ends of the earth (Mt 28-16-20)

• Acts presents the expansion of Christianity through Peter, apostle to the Jews and Paul, apostle to the pagans.
• By establishing local churches during his missionary journeys, Paul would encourage unity between Jews and Gentiles.
• During his 3rd journey, Paul understood that the disciples in Jerusalem and Judea were suffering from famine (Acts 11.28) and he urged the pagan Christians of Macedonia and Achaia (present-day Greece, Turkey) to give to alleviate their distress and to advance the work of God among the Jews who are generally less receptive to the gospel (Rom. 15:25-27)

Financial support for God’s work comes from God’s children.

What attitudes should we have when we think about supporting the work of God, whether it be missionary support, charitable support or support of the local church, each contributing to the progress of the Gospel and to the glory of God.

• In 2 Cor 8:9 Paul exhorts the Corinthians to give not only generously but also from willing hearts. Let’s discover some good attitudes of heart that please God when the time comes to “put your hand in your pocket” and open your wallet for the work of God (Prayer and Reading of 2 Cor 8.1-15).

Giving demonstrates our appreciation of God’s grace (2 Corinth. 8:1-4)

• Our generosity must flow from a sense of privilege in contributing to God’s plan and mission.
• “The Grace to Take Part” The Macedonians wanted to be counted among those participating in what God was doing through Paul’s ministry.
• The privilege of giving, like the privilege of contributing to what God has done for me and can do for others as well.

I give with the pride that I belong to Jesus and want others to come to repentance. Amen!
